Taking a break

/ 2 min read

I have been trying to hit a pause recently when I can and just do the work and try not to do any tech related stuff outside of it. Just to refill the energy.

That is an effect of reading “Slow productivity” and I think a lot about first 2 principles (I continue to read): do less and work at natural pace. So it turned into me finishing some on-going duties and not taking new one.

That is what I tried to do last month. And only maybe 1-2 days ago I started to feel some urge and desire to try to do something more.

But this time I won’t try to build a product or whatever you call it.

What I really need is to return fun of coding. Not going to solve somebody’s problem, “think big” or try to learn how to do market research. I am bad at this and probably won’t be better.

I just good at solving puzzles, making software and learning.

I know I won’t come up with some new hashicorp-level technology, especially with coding agents like I am not even sure it’s worth spending time into making shared tools for developers. Everyone can build very specific workflow now way more optimized than any generic devtool.

So, since I can put aside any attempts to make something cool and great - I can just ignore all of that.

Yesterday I found out about 2 books: Writing An Interpreter In Go and Writing A Compiler In Go . I already reimplemented https://nnfs.io book in Go 2 years ago and that was really fun experience. I never built an interpreter (for some reasons we did not have that at Uni) - why not to make it now?
